At the gate
Check-in is at the Royal Kona Resort desk; the listing carries two possible gate times, so your voucher is the one to trust for your date. A shell lei goes on as you're shown to your seat.
Finding your table
Seating is oceanfront, looking down the lava shoreline of Kailua Bay. General admission fills on a first-come basis once you're inside; the VIP package puts your party closer to the stage.
The buffet
The all-you-can-eat spread comes out once seating is underway: grilled rib eye and fresh fish from the grill, Kailua-style pork and cabbage, huli huli chicken, a seafood bar, coconut rolls, sweet potato-macaroni salad and poi, with dessert to follow.
The show begins
Live music starts the Polynesian revue, with song and dance carrying the evening forward as the light over the bay keeps changing.
Deeper into the night
The performance moves through chants and dances of the South Pacific, lit against an ocean that's gone fully dark by this point in the evening.
The fire-knife finale
The night closes with Siva Afi, the Samoan fire-knife dance: blades wrapped in fuel-soaked cloth, lit, and spun along the rail above the water for the evening's last act.
